The Power to Transform: Inside AMA Atlanta’s Mentorship Program

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.”

Oprah Winfrey

Hope is a strange thing to need help seeing. But most of us do, at some point. And it’s usually right when we need it most and have the least idea where to find it. That’s the gap AMA Atlanta’s Mentorship Program is trying to close, and this fall, it is returning with its most intentional structure yet.

This year’s program is led by Jeremy Haselwood, who was driven by his own personal experience to get involved. Once a young professional with no network and unsure of where to even start when it came to connecting with marketing leaders, leading this program is his way of giving back – of helping to build the thing he didn’t have.

If that sounds like where you are right now, you’re exactly who this program was built for.

Based directly on feedback from past mentors and mentees, the committee is creating something bigger than the traditional 1:1 model this year. While the one-on-one meetings will remain the heart of the program, they will be wrapped in a series of dedicated events where mentors and mentees will get the opportunity to build relationships across the entire cohort. It won’t just be pairing people off, but building a community to help create deeper connections.

Made with Heart, Run by Volunteers

Every person behind this program is a volunteer, and that shows up in how it’s built. Each touchpoint is designed with a specific person in mind – what a mentee needs to get out of it, and separately, what a mentor gets in return. The goal isn’t just a bigger contact list, it’s a community you can tap into for years after your cohort ends. If you need a helping hand, someone to listen, and you value relationships as a marketer, there’s no other way to get what this program offers.

A Two-Way Exchange

It would be easy to assume a program like this would primarily benefit the mentee, but ask Jeremy and you’ll get a different answer. Every mentee he’s been matched with – college students, young professionals, mid-career marketers alike – has been described as a gift in return. The conversations go both ways: real, sometimes tough, often opening up new ideas or perspectives. And there’s a particular kind of reward in watching a mentee reach an epiphany in real time, knowing you helped get them there. That reciprocity is the whole point. This isn’t a program assigning you a mentor or a mentee. It’s two marketers building something together – learning and growing from each other.

Whether you are a mentor or mentee, this program has the power to transform you.

The window is short. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to finally build a network – or become the mentor – you wish you’d had, this is it.
