September Signature Luncheon: AMA presents Improv for Marketing by The Second City Works

Improv fundamentals for creative thinking and adaptive storytelling

Improvisation is the art of creating scenes based on audience suggestions. The performers at Second City take the material they’ve improvised onstage and craft it into scripted scenes using storytelling techniques. Many of the tools that are successful onstage have applications offstage—specifically in the business world, in terms of both creative thinking and storytelling. This highly interactive session will introduce participants to the foundations of improvisation and teach them how they can improve both creative thinking and telling stories.

You’ll learn how to:
• Listen and respond like an improv actor to establish a framework of collaboration
• Foster creative thinking and greater collaboration
• Use the “Yes, and …” technique to start from a place of abundance when crafting stories
• Make stories more engaging through the mindset of audience focus

Meet the Second City Works

From the world-famous Second City Theater, which gave us such famous comedic actors as Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell and Steven Colbert, comes a team with a proven and innovative training methodology that builds skills while being interactive, engaging, and thought provoking.

Walk-in registrations will be available the morning of the event at Maggiano's Buckhead.

 Speakers:

Kristy West, Account Director at Second City Works

Kristy West is an Account Director at Second City Works, the innovative business solutions arm of the world-famous Second City comedy theater.

Prior to joining Second City Work, she spent 14 years working in sales and business development in the Atlanta market while simultaneously studying, performing, and teaching improvisation. Over time, her improv training began to spill over into her professional life, helping develop critical communication skills and propelling her career to new heights. In 2009, Kristy merged her passion for improv with her extensive sales experience and began consulting, coaching companies like Home Depot, Mailchimp, Bank of America, WorldPay, and Cox Automotive on how to apply the principles of improvisation to build more cohesive teams and creative, collaborative work environments.

Kristy joined Second City Works in March of 2017, bringing her years of experience to the premier practitioners of improv and its vast benefits to the workplace. She is based in Atlanta, where she runs the southeast operations.

Steve Kakos, Vice President at Second City Works

Steve is a Vice President for Second City Works, where he guides leading businesses in capturing unique consumer insights in order to develop creative concepts, campaigns and innovations through Second City’s wholly-original Brandstage process. Join Atlanta Ballet CMO, Tricia Ekholm and the AJC’s native advertising lead, Lance Helms, for an inside look at publisher-driven native advertising showing how native helped power the Ballet’s campaign to introduce their new artistic director, Gennadi Nedvigin to the Atlanta market.

BANDS & BRANDS:  How live music promoters are partnering with marketers to grow the next generation of fans.

As marketers seek out new and meaningful ways to engage with young, hard-to-reach audiences, they are rediscovering just how important music is to their consumers.

Nielsen research shows that 76% of festivalgoers, and 51% of all consumers, view brands more favorably when they participate in festivals, concerts, tours and Livestreamed events.  Brands as diverse as Coca-Cola, H&M, Toyota and State Farm have had tremendous success with experiential campaigns developed for events like Lollapalooza, Coachella and Bonnaroo and others.  It’s no wonder that sponsorship spending on music tours, festivals and venues was estimated to be nearly $1.5 billion in 2016.

On Tuesday, May 16th, AMA Atlanta’s Entertainment Marketing SIG invites you join some of Atlanta’s most successful live music promoters, festival producers and entertainment marketers for an insiders’ look at how brands are integrating with live music experiences to create lasting bonds with consumers.

In today's democratized, socialized and digitized environment, brands are only relevant if they (a) have something unique to say, and (b) a way of saying it that creates value. These brands come from a position of trust and earn their relevance.

The Edelman Brand Relationship Index—part of the Edelman Earned Brand 2016 watershed study of 13,000 consumers across 13 countries—illuminates an enormous opportunity for brands to build stronger consumer relationships. These committed consumers don't just buy first; they stay loyal to, advocate for, and defend the brands they care about.

Join us on Thursday, Sept 15, 2016 at the AJC-AMA Digital SIG Breakfast to learn more about this important research, including:

  • The seven characteristics of an earned brand

  • How to earn brand relevance, versus demanding it

  • The five stages of consumer relationships—and how to move through them

eSports is competitive video game playing broadcast to a live audience. With staggering audience growth for live-streamed events and the ability to fill major arenas, eSports has become a global phenomenon that’s starting to get the attention of major brands such as Coca-Cola, Nissan, Arby’s and Buffalo Wild Wings. Almost half of the global eSports audience is aged between 18 and 34, a demographic that’s increasingly difficult for marketers to reach via other channels.

On Tuesday, August 9, join Christina Alejandre, VP & General Manager of ELEAGUE, along with Todd Harris, Alban Dechelette and Gerard Kelly, to discover what’s driving eSports’ popularity and unprecedented engagement levels among Millennial males. Attendees will also get an insider’s look at ELEAGUE -- the transformative eSports gaming league formed by Turner and WME/IMG that launched its inaugural season this summer.

Joining Christina will be a panel of gaming and media industry influencers, including Todd Harris, Alban Dechelette and Gerard Kelly, for a discussion on where eSports is headed next – and how forward thinking marketers, brands and agencies can leverage this influential shift in entertainment and sports culture. Seats are limited for this exclusive studio event, so reserve yours today.

Bot activity makes up nearly 50 percent of publisher traffic. Sophisticated bots generate fake impressions and clicks from automated computing programs. Digital advertising will make $43.8 billion next year, and $7.2 billion will be lost to Sophisticated Non-Human Invalid Traffic generated by cyber criminals.

The growth of intrusive ad formats is causing a rise in consumer ad blocking. Over 16% of the US online population blocked ads during 2015. Over 50% of millennials are regularly using web ad blocking.

These are scary statistics.

While technology has catapulted the industry's ability to increase efficiency and consumer targeting, it also left us extraordinarily vulnerable. Simply put, the publisher, advertiser and agency community needs to do more to attack and address each of these concerns. Hear from our expert panelists from Forbes Media, White Ops and Rocket Fuel as they discuss the growing challenges and potential solutions.

Overview:

American telecommunications giant, Comcast will share their approach and experience in multilingual, multiculturalmarketing at this kickoff Multicultural Marketing SIG event.

Comcast has been carrying multicultural programming in the US for over 12 years, and as their business grew, so did the need to carry additional programming, and they branched out into even more ethnicities. Their customers speak many languages and are from many backgrounds. For them it is important to ensure their employees and products relate to customers.

Cultural sensitivity, nuance, appeal, preference, behavior, and response differ widely across different ethnic groups and even within subgroups of the larger segments. Understanding those is key for any multicultural marketing effort.

Having spent decades in building brands, companies should be willing to spend a few years to build a culture-specific, following organizations that do so will reap the benefits of increased mindshare and market share within these high-growth segments. This is the Comcast success story about Multicultural Marketing.

Overview:

There's a good chance that you rarely watch network television today, and – if you do – you’re increasingly likely to watch days later on a DVR, on a streaming service, or on your laptop or mobile device.   Younger consumers are in control -- and catering to their viewing habits means delivering what they want, on any screen they want, with as few interruptions as possible.  The network television audience is still enormous, but that audience is shrinking rapidly — especially in the demographics advertisers most care about.

If you’re a network, an advertiser or, most importantly, a viewer at home, what does the future of TV look like for you?  Join the AMA Atlanta Entertainment Marketing SIG and a panel of thought leaders from influential brands, TV networks, streaming services and cable companies for an insightful discussion as we learn how they’re evolving their TV business models to prepare for an exciting, disruptive and uncharted future.

Many marketers do not know how to extract actionable insights from their company's "Big Data."  At the same time, many market researchers worry that “big data” will make their traditional research obsolete – as their clients focus to spend their research dollars on data from millions of customers rather than on surveys from only thousands.  In this presentation, Market Strategies’ Greg Mishkin explores ways marketers can put their Big Data to good use, while preserving the benefits of traditional market research methods. Numerous case studies will be shared that show how integrating big data analytics with traditional research methods provides value far in excess of what can be attained separately by traditional research or big data alone.

Millennials are the future of business. In the next three to five years, they will represent 50 percent of the US workforce and will wield increasingly more influence over organizations’ work environments, leadership styles, and corporate culture. As digital natives, this generation brings vital capabilities to the workplace at precisely the time many companies are going through their own digital transformation.
