Extending a Helping Hand Goes a Long Way


Want to expand your network and find a more fulfilling way to get involved in Atlanta's marketing community? Then you belong with us!

AMA Atlanta runs on a wide variety of member-only volunteer committees — and one of them has your name on it. Get involved to network, broaden your professional skills or just meet new people. From helping with our annual Atlanta Marketer of the Year (AMY) Awards, to planning and executing the Collegiate Conference, recruiting new members, and more — there are a variety of ways to get involved — and make the most of your membership.

AMA Atlanta is always looking for great marketing professionals. Check out the committee descriptions listed below and decide where you can make the best contribution. Communications/Public Relations Committee


Purpose
Manage all communications for AMA Atlanta, including media relations (calendar items, press releases) and e-mail marketing (e-newsletters and e-announcements). Maintain brand integrity (ensure the corporate/visual identity and message platform are communicated and used consistently to establish a strong brand presence) and support core AMA Atlanta events, including AMY Awards and the Collegiate Conference. The Communications committee is also charged with developing and executing an annual communications plan.

Ideal Volunteers
The Communications committee is always in need of good writers who are organized, and have good people skills. Experience in media relations, e-mail marketing, or database management is a plus.

Benefits to Volunteering
People interested in working on the Communications committee will have the ability to reach out and interact with other volunteers on AMA Atlanta's Programs committee and Special Interest Groups (SIGS) to gather information to promote. If you're in the communications industry, volunteering on this committee is a great way to build added skills, your resume, and networking contacts.

Sponsorship Committee


Purpose
Raise funds and in-kind donations for further development and to meet operational needs. The committee establishes and maintains relationships with sponsors.

Ideal Volunteers
The primary skills for people on the Sponsorship committee are business development, sales and media relations roles or those aspiring to these positions. Based on fit, some volunteers may focus on fund development, while others will secure in-kind donations. We look for volunteers who have great communications and customer relations skills, as well as attention to detail and follow-up.

Benefits to Volunteering
Working on the Sponsorship committee is a great way to meet senior-level marketing professionals in Atlanta within a variety of industries. There is recognition for goals achieved, an upbeat team environment and incentives.

Membership Committee


Purpose
Develop, implement, manage and measure AMA Atlanta membership promotions and initiatives, with the goal of increasing membership recruitment and retention.

Ideal Volunteers
Membership committee volunteers will assist with creative brainstorming for value-added membership opportunities, and should possess strong follow through skills to gauge the effectiveness of recruitment and retention strategies.

Benefits to Volunteering
Help shape the value of an AMA Atlanta membership and learn creative and analytical skills by developing and measuring various programs.

Atlanta Marketer of the Year Awards (AMY) Committee


Purpose
To plan and execute the Atlanta Marketer of the Year Awards, Atlanta's prestigious industry awards event. Each year, AMA Atlanta recognizes the city's most successful marketing, advertising, public relations and communications work based on results.

Ideal Volunteers
The primary skills include event organization and management, or a strong desire to learn those skills. The committee begins its work in the spring, and kicks into high gear in the summer and early fall. If you have great organization skills, are detailed-oriented and want to see some of the best marketing efforts in the city, join the AMY committee.

Benefits to Volunteering
The AMY committee is a great way to build your event and meeting planning skills, as well as learn to juggle multiple aspects of a project, including judging, entry promotion, public relations, special event planning and execution, and more.

Website & Database Committee


Purpose
The Website & Database Committee for AMA Atlanta oversees development, updates and changes to the chapter's Web site and maintains the member and non-member database.

Ideal Volunteers
If you like building sustainable processes and are adept at Web copywriting, database management and have an attention to detail, this committee is for you.

Benefits of Volunteering
Gain experience in database and vendor management.

DECA Certification Committee


Purpose
The DECA certification committee offers its volunteers a chance to give back to up-and-coming marketers. Georgia's DECA program is a high school marketing organization for which AMA provides industry certification.

Ideal Volunteers
We are seeking volunteers who are available select weekdays to visit schools and determine whether they're worthy of certification, and also help students with presentations they make at state, national and international competitions. Ideal volunteers will have reliable transportation, a flexible schedule and a passion for mentoring our area's budding marketers.

Benefits of Volunteering
Join a strong group of marketers and school board executives in preparing Georgia's youth for fulfilling careers.

Young Professionals SIG


Purpose
The Young Professionals (YP) Special Interest Group (SIG) provides up-and-coming professionals with the opportunity to network with peers and senior-level executives through events, happy hours/mixers and community service projects. Open to all, YPs typically range in age from 25 to 35, and are involved in marketing, public relations, sales and advertising. Student Members: The meetings are a great venue for you to get more involved... make connections... and launch your career. YP events include the annual Wine Tasting and Art Gallery exhibition, events on sports marketing, politics, starting your own company, and much more. There is no additional cost to participate.

Ideal Volunteers
We are seeking marketing professionals who are enthusiastic about the growth and development of young professionals within AMA Atlanta. Volunteers must be responsible and available to make the time commitment (monthly meetings and attendance at YP events). Strong interest in event promotion and coordination needed. Industry and event planning experience is a plus.

The YP SIG offers an opportunity to network and collaborate with a diverse group of young professionals in the Atlanta community, enhance your role and presence within AMA Atlanta, hone your leadership skills and stay informed about the latest trends.

Market Research SIG


Purpose
The Market Research Special Interest Group (SIG) has brings together researchers from all over the city. With a few hundred research professionals in Atlanta who spend 50% or more of their time on primary, secondary and syndicated research, and many more marketing professionals who may spend less than 50%, the Market Research SIG's goal is to create the premier city-based education and networking group in the country for researchers.

Marketing Technology/Next Generation Marketing SIG


Purpose
The Marketing Technology/Next Generation Marketing Special Interest Group (SIG) is a resource through which local professionals interested in new media marketing platforms and technologies can develop and share their knowledge and skills. Educational programs and events focus on marketing through the Internet, e-mail, iTV, mobile/wireless devices, etc.

Ideal Volunteers
We are seeking people who are passionate about technology and new platforms in the digital space or other areas of marketing that are revolutionary and new. There is a minimum time commitment, and this is a great opportunity to contribute to a fast growing SIG and segment of the marketing world. If you're ready to take your AMA membership to the next level, this is your chance.

Benefits of Volunteering
Network and collaborate in the field of online media and marketing, and provide input on programming, topics and speakers for our luncheons. Our events have been selling out on a regular basis and your work with the group will help keep the crowds coming!

Collegiate Outreach


Purpose
Collegiate Outreach educates students about career opportunities available in marketing. Our team is committed to training students of marketing through educational programs, personalized career counseling and networking opportunities. We are the link between the academic marketing world and the professional marketing world as college students prepare for their career.

We offer a variety of events, networking opportunities and resume assistants. Collegiate Outreach also assists in launching and growing collegiate AMA chapters through leadership training, strategic plan development, speaker sourcing and more.

Ideal Volunteers
The Ideal volunteer would be a marketing, advertising or sales professional who enjoys working with students and a team of volunteers. Volunteers must be responsible and available to make the time commitment of attending monthly planning meetings.

Volunteering is a great way to build leadership skills or grow your current skills as well as networking with other professionals in the Atlanta AMA chapter. Collegiate Outreach offers an opportunity to impact the careers of Atlanta's up and upcoming marketers.
